Finding Sunshine after the Storm”
A Work Book For Children Healing from Sexual Abuse
By Sharon A. McGee, LMFT and Curtis Holmes, Ph.D.
Product Description
When a child has experienced sexual abuse, he or she may struggle with low self-esteem and find it difficult to trust others. Though the mental damage from such abuse is significant, it can be substantially reversed if a caring adult is willing to dedicate a few minutes each day to helping the child heal. Finding Sunshine After the Storm contains forty compassionate activities kids who have suffered abuse can do to raise their self-esteem, establish boundaries, and identify people they can trust.
These simple activities drawn from a variety of therapeutic modalities are best used in combination with counseling to help kids recover from trauma and build confidence. As children work through this book, they will learn to deal with painful feelings in positive ways, reach out for support, and feel proud of themselves by “taking a bow” after important accomplishments. This workbook can help them reclaim the pride, joy, and security they may feel as though they have lost–the sunshine after the storm.
Our review:
This is a must have for all parents helping your children with the issues that are related to sexual abuse. The works focus is on helping children develop healthy self esteem and boundaries from this point forward.
I also recommend anyone that is an adult in the early stages of healing this book as it is written to a child is a great way to touch that inner child that has the hidden issues and it will help you as well.

I have just began reading this book but I wanted others to get there hands on it in one way or another. if you are a non offending parent and you ARE or Have dealt with sexual trauma of your child in your home (intra familiar Sexual abuse, Incest). This book really helps to understand that this is not just a trauma for the child but a family trauma.
And there are many complexities to these families during the disclosure phase and years to come.
It is a Book written for therapists, but can be helpful for the parent that wants more then the basic understanding of how to deal with the problem now and in the future and how to deal with the parental reactions to the trauma of incest.
I am a huge fan of the principle based life that The 7 Habits of Highly Effective People by Stephen Covey talks about. Not great wisdom really Just how to make good old bible principles work in todays crazy world. These children’s books have been adapted by his son Sean Covey for teens, young children and mid level reading children.
A nice series to add to your children’s Healthy coping life skills library. definitely worth owning or getting from the local library.
There is a bunch of these types of books are now cropping up….
That is just a few the rest are coming… An now a few more writers are jumping on the habit Band wagon. Ride baby Ride.

I WATCHED IT ONCE…. and will watch it again and again. It was full of very good information. and a series of very complex questions are raised in how to stop Incest. The mind of the abuser and how the impact of abuse effects our children for years to come. It cannot be ingnored. And the stranger is not who we need to protect our children from.
I thank, The Directors for Giving this to the world.
